Ooooh, that is sex on wheels right there. Verra nize!

Sounds like a bit more oomph was added too. =D

When do I get to ride in it? ;)

Come on up!!

As for mods, all are cosmetic. Not much you can do with an NA engine. The VAGCOM stuff was to code-out the missing bulb in the ecodes, and to show the gear number while in D or S. Oh, I also changed the indicator wink/dimming function. The headlamp no longer goes completely out while I engage the turn indicators. It now dims (although not enough, I want to tone it down more).

That's right, I forgot you were getting the NA version over the later boosted motor and were concerned that your build might not have NA. Sweet! True, there isn't much in the way of "practical" mods to be done on an already stratospherically tuned NA engine without some serious reworking of internals and induction... or adding boost. :)

I think you'll be happy with it as it is. Though I am this close to running out and getting a Dodge Challenger Hellcat. Why? 707 horsepower seems just about right to me. Until the warranty is up and I can add to it. I can't keep my paws out of an engine for long. ;)

By wrapped, did you have a kind of clear bra material applied up front (and other areas)? And which bulbs are removed? The dimming of the headlights is being done to make the turn lamps more prominent, yes?

Yeah, I'm wondering what "wrapped" means in this context too. I'm used to the term being used for temporary advertising vinyl all over a vehicle.

That's the film I have. I wrapped the entire car in it. Most people just get the front, but I have to leave the car out in an open-air parking lot all day, and all sorts of things can happen.

It's ostensibly the same thing as vinyl advertising on busses and such, but a different material (and it's optically clear). It's also not permanent, so if something happens, and it needs to be removed, it doesn't ruin the paint.

Aha! Fascinating - and I can see why you'd do that. Much easier to replace if need be than a painted-on clear coat. ;)

yeah, it's an interesting experiment. The cold weather is causing some 'lift' though. I'm going to go back in a few weeks and get it all retouched. (this is normal)

Oh, they say money can't buy happiness. They are very, very wrong. Not only am I happy, but I'm elated, excited, thrilled, and… perhaps a bit overwhelmed.

As for the wrap, yeah, it's a 'clear bra', except it's the entire car, even on the front splitter, and the horizontal and vertical slats on the air channels (not the grille though… that'd be insane). They did an amazing job. They tucked all the edges into the underside of the body panels, for a totally seamless look. As you can see, you can't tell it's on. There is only one pic without it, and that's the pic at the house (penultimate). I gave the link to the XPEL Ultimate in my reply to Furr. Give it a looksee.

As for bulbs, the European headlamps don't have a bulb that lights up the amber side marker in the US version (see the amber marker in the penultimate pic). If you don't tell the computer that you have ecodes, it'll generate a fault, as it expects those extra bulbs to be on in the system.

The dimming is exactly as you describe. In the US version of the coding, the LED DRLs go completely off when the turn indicator is on. The EU version of the coding has them dim to (some percentage…60%??) less than full power. The percentage can be changed fairly easily. Right now, it's dimming to 80 or 90% and that's far too bright for me. I'd like to see it at standard EU levels or a bit below. Of course, the side mirrors also have turn signals on them, and they are fully visible as they aren't surrounded by additional DRLs.

Lastly, a Hellcat?? Really? Sure, it's a bajillion horsepower, but it's not particularly streetable HP, and gods forbid you want to turn! They're hot as hell though! 450HP and 350TQ with Quattro AWD and torque vectored steering is juuuuuuuust fine by me =)

Very cool with the total wrap! I wished I had done the MINI up soon after getting it, like yours and many cars today, it's all paint and with a lot of forward facing bodywork, and in your case, almost no bumper distinction. Now there's just too many chips. in my case. Wear a car condom while out in public! ;)

Did you install euro spec headlights in the car rather than US spec? I'm sorta confused (pain killers aren't helping matters either). This reminds me when the MINI was introduced and the first years came with the rear fog light bulbs in place but with no means to use the. I was part of an early effort to have BMW release the revised switch bank and the software to activate the function, I came up with a simple mod that allowed the unused fog lights to function as added brake lights and not interfere with rear fog operation if it was ever installed. The first few years of those cars, the rabid enthusiast following and a lot of mods being explored was a ton of fun. As the cars became more commonplace, that early enthusiasm waned. I still love the car, though I didn't exactly love having the window lift mechanism on the right side self-destructing a couple months ago right after my back self-destructed as well. I had to leave the car outside with a bag stuck over the slightly open window to keep the rain out. Last week, when I finally mustered enough wherewithal to tackle the project, I discovered that my replacement window lift motor ran backwards, and the lift mechanism banged and cracked when the window reached either limit. I was not happy. Otherwise, it's been a pretty reliable car for me, if not as much for others.

As for the Hellcat, I like to steer with my right foot as well as my hands. :)

If I had a bit more spare cash, I would be really jonesing for the Tesla P85D. Almost the same HP, but fully electric. I see quite a few Model S's running around here. I won't be doing much throttle steering with the Tesla, but that silent rush would be like every launched roller coaster I've been on. =D

ETA: My underclocked brain CPU finally figured out what you were doing with the lights right after I put my laptop down for the night.

the problem with the car condom is that you don't feel anything when you're driving ;-)

It's interesting, you're the second person to mention that their replacement window motor ran backwards. I wonder if it was a massive factory defect.

The Tesla is super cool, as a tech object. As a car, meh. It can't get from here to Cambridge on a single charge, and I don't find the in-person looks of the S to be at all sexy. That front end looks cheap, as does the chrome strips for the pop-out door handles. In photographs, where they use wide angle lenses, and in renders, it looks vastly better.

The Tesla is the only pure electric that will get us to PA with charge to spare, but it does have its limitations. I'm not so thrilled the front end looks Kia-like, but the silhouette is nice, if unremarkable. That is something I wouldn't want to be too showy, a Hellcat, well, nothing hides that.

MINIs use similar window parts as BMWs, that's why I have window problems. The motor itself is an aftermarket replacement, as is the lift, both came with good review marks, but I am thoroughly pissed at what I got. I bet the samefactory is chrning out that replacement motor under other brands, and quality control was asleep.. Chinese parts, what do you expect?

I particularly like the photo of your new car with the covered bridge! :) I know you waited a long time for it to arrive. Enjoy! Enjoy!

My apologies! I know nothing about cars, so I can't make comments specific to the car and or what Phil and you are discussing:)

Thanks! That was taken with my iPhone, just outside my house. That was before I got the stuff done to it (notice the little flash of yellow in the outer portion of the headlight, and that it's gone on the other pics).
