Because You Asked…
Apr. 1st, 2007 02:57 pmHere are the questions and answers to the 24 Hours of Questionmas entry. Thank you for participating. There were many questions that were similar, so instead of quoting the questions verbatim, I've edited them for grammar, spelling, merged them, and/or edited them so they make sense in this context. So, without further ado:
- Why have you not sent me Snow Patrol songs?
- Because I am forgetful
- Wanna make out?
- Quit smoking, then we'll talk.
- What do you think of Aruba in May?
- I've not been to Aruba in May, but I have been there in September, and it's quite lovely, when it's not raining.
- What is your workout routine?
- The human body has to be tricked into changing. This means that no one routine will work for too long, but in general, I follow a modified version of the Max-OT plan. It concentrates on strength, making you do few reps (4-6) of very heavy weights. I try to hit the gym five days a week, but that rarely happens, as I commute to NYC for work, and on days I need to feed Bill, I can't stay out too late. Minimum, I'll go three days a week. Each day, I hit a single muscle group for about 45mins to an hour. I tend to do the larger groups first (legs, back, chest), then the smaller groups (biceps, triceps, shoulders). I tend to forget abdominals, as I am a lazy bastard (and it shows… there is a reason you don't see pics of my middle!)
- How long have you been working out?
- About 7 years, although in those years, I've taken months off at a time, due to a variety of reasons, mostly medical (injuries, flu, etc)
- What brought you and Bill together as a couple, and what keeps you together?
- Oddly enough, we met at a Starbucks, in Greenwich, CT. We wound up sitting next to each other, and engaged in conversation. A few days later, I emailed him, asking if he wanted to get a drink. Hours after that, I get a phone call from him, asking the same thing (he didn't get my email at the time of the call). I wound up going to his place for drinks, and wound up sleeping over. As for what keeps us together, I think that's several things. For one, he's one of the sharpest minds on the planet, another is that we complement each other. Love came over time, and quite unexpectedly.
- How does your time get apportioned for a typical 24 hour week day?
- That's a really good question, and I thank you for asking. I actually took time to journal everything I did in a day, as it's not something I about which normally think. I wake up at 7:15, and stay in bed for about 30 minutes, listening to the news on NPR, then I go upstairs, check to see if there are any IMs received overnight. After that, I hop in the shower, and let the near-scalding water wake me up. After showering, I brush my teeth in front of my computer, reading any emails, and various bits of LJ. Then, I brush my hair, and go downstairs to get dressed. By now, it's about 8:30. After getting dressed, I make myself a protein shake, and a slice of bread with peanut butter, and rush out to take the 8:58 train to NYC. I arrive at work about 10am, take lunch somewhere between 1 and 2pm, then continue to work until about 6:30. Then, I take the 7:04 train back to Greenwich. Depending on the day, I'll go either to Whole Foods to pick up ingredients for dinner, or I'll drive to neighbouring Stamford to grab a pre-workout bite to eat. If it's a workout day, I'll then hit the gym, from about 9:30pm to about 11pm. If I am having dinner with Bill, we'll eat by about 9pm. After dinner, we'll usually continue to chat, read, or perhaps watch something on TV, until Bill gets tired and goes to bed (usually around 10). I usually stay awake reading and chatting with other folk, or playing Warcraft until about 1 or 2am. Then I crawl into bed. Lather, rince, repeat.
- Tell us more about your taste in porn, and if you feel like it, talk about why you like it, or the circumstances that turned you on to it.
- My taste in porn is eclectic, although there are themes. I view porn as 'fantasy', ie, something that is unusual, or isn't normally accessible. This means I tend toward "freak porn". Gimme a video with 8 midgets and one giant, and I'll be entertained far more than, say, your basic "piston porn". Sure, some porn does get me sexually excited, but for the most part, it's entertainment, just like a sitcom, but with more male nudity. Because I classify it as 'entertainment', and because I am a photographer, I actually care about the composition of the shot, and how a video is produced. It's not enough to have hot blokes going about it, you need great presentation of the product. It's got to be a total package (pun only somewhat intended).
- Have you always been attracted to older guys, or was this something that developed over time?
- This may surprise most, but it's not *so* much older guys that I am attracted to. It's more an emotional maturity and stability. It just happens that you usually have to go around the block a few times before you get there. Men younger than I am tend to be neither fish nor fowl in that regard, but that isn't always the case. The inverse is also true. There are many men who are far older than I, but just don't show up on the radar because they're an emotional wreck, or just lack life experience.
- Are you a cuddle monster and affectionate when your at home?
- Verymuch so! Many people who know me know that I'm rather demonstrative with regard to affection. I still find it odd that it surprises some.
- Are you more of a pc gamer or a console gamer?
- I'm a gamer, although it's tough for me to be much of an active one, as I just don't have much time to devote to gaming. Mostly it comes down to players. Many board games I like require 3-4 people, and it's difficult to get a good group together consistently. I grew up in the golden age of arcade games, so the games I play most often to this day are Ms. Pac Man, Centipede, and the like. Prettymuch anything from the early 80s works for me, as I can pick it up, play for awhile, then put it down without needing to look for a save point, or figure out where I left off in the plot after 4 weeks of not playing. Currently, I don't own a console, but I plan on buying a Wii for the office.
- What are your best lifts, and what are your stats?
- That's a really good question, and alas, one I can't answer fully, as I simply don't have the data. At my peak, I was able to do 1170+sled in the inverted leg press, and over 235 with a cable triceps pushdown (200 stack, with 35lb wheel on the pin. I simply can't fit more weight on it). A "real" bench press, trying hard not to engage my triceps is only about 235. I'd say it's the area in which I need most improvement. I don't know exactly how big my arms are, etc, but according to the scale this AM, I am 6'4", 203.5lbs, 15% bodyfat @56% water.
- Is there anything bothering you?
- Yes! I think it's pathetic that the US is so far behind in its ability to provide for its citizens with regard to education, equal rights, and health care —let alone arts and sciences. It should also be mentioned that the current administration's total lack of forward vision with regard to foreign nations is a global embarrassment, and sadly, I don't believe it will be fixed in 2008, assuming a Democrat in the White House.
- So, we've met recently. What would you like to do the next time I'm in town & we get together?
- I rather enjoyed the dinner we had, so another would be in order.
