Countdown to Oregon Brewer's Festival!
I am a big fan of the Kimpton hotel chain. They're rather LGBT and pet friendly (surprisingly including human pets… =)). They also go above and beyond for their customers. The other day, Kirsten at the PDX Hotel Monaco emailed me, inquiring if I needed any additional assistance either before or during my stay. I wrote back the following:
While it was a few days after she wrote that I wrote back, I received a response about two hours after I sent my email:
So, do any of my PDXers know of these places?
Kirsten,
Thank you for the email. I am looking forward to staying with you during my trip to PDX. Although it is a brief trip, I will be spending most of it at the Oregon Brewer's Festival. Would it be possible to direct me to the appropriate public transit facilities that will get me to/from the OBF and the Hotel (or foot directions if it would make more sense to walk)?
Also, while I'd like to believe man can live on beer alone, the reality is quite different. I'm a bit of a foodie, and I would love to know your opinions (and/or those of your colleagues) on places to eat, with an eye toward places that serve fresh local ingredients. The ethnic origin of the dishes matters little, as I am a big fan of prettymuch every country's cuisine.
While it was a few days after she wrote that I wrote back, I received a response about two hours after I sent my email:
Dear Mr. Harrington,
Thanks for writing back! The Oregon Brewer’s Festival is taking place at the Tom McCall Waterfront Park, which is only 3 blocks away from the hotel, so you should be able to walk there no problem.
As for great dining, there is a plethora of options. Some spots you might want to research: Andina (Peruvian), Paley’s Place (Pacific Northwest regional), Oba (Latin American), Ping (Southeast Asian bar food), Fenouil (French), and 50 Plates (Modern American). All might be some place you might like to try, but if I were to suggest one it would be Paley’s Place. They are a shining example of the type of local, sustainable, organic cuisine that the Pacific Northwest offers. Definitely worth a visit.
I hope this has been of some help to you! If you can think of anything else that would make your stay with us a great one, please let me know!
