Fuck it, I'm out.
Apr. 9th, 2011 11:07 pmBetween LJ's DDoS problems, (which aren't going to go away, considering the Russian government is the one doing the DDoSing), their total lack of modern posting tools, and their inability to answer questions through their tech support mechanism, I'm allowing my LJ become moribund.
This really sucks, as the community that's been created is a good one, even if it is much smaller than it was even a year ago. I really do care about you, but my needs of a blogging tool are different now, and if LJ refuses to let me contribute my own content to the discussion, I don't see a reason to support them, and I certainly don't see a reason to continue posting.
As much as I'd like to say "hey everyone, I'm totally going to keep my Flist loading, and still be active in comments", the reality of the situation is that I probably won't be. That's what hurts me the most, and that's what makes all of this so difficult. LJ is all about the community, but in a community, you need to contribute, and I can no longer do that in the way I want.
I'll still be on Flickr, Twitter, Instagram, and Posterous. They all have RSS feeds, so you can follow along here, if you want, but I'm no longer interested in trying to fight LJ into letting me embed my own fucking content in the way that I want to embed it. The RSS feed will probably be a somewhat less-than-optimal experience.
None of the above tools will allow me to really do what I want to do, which means I'm going to have to create something totally new. I don't know what that will be just yet, but I will let folks know. I will have commenting, probably through the DISQUS utility, which will allow you to sign in using your LJ ID. It has threading, like LJ, so that'll be handy as well.
This won't be my last post, but that time will be soon, as soon as I figure out where to go, and what to do.
I do hope I get to see you all again soon.
