The folks I follow I tend to know in person, or otherwise find engaging on subjects I find interesting. This is a very small, manageable volume for me, although sometimes I still have trouble keeping up. I tend to add new people, but I don't tend to de-list folk, which potentially changes the volume of material available to me readily. I also add folk without the implication that they should add me back. If folks find me interesting, they can do that on their own. I don't get notified either way.
Being that my Flist is fairly limited, an amusing result is that I often read about OPLJD, or "Other People's LiveJournal Drama". I don't actually read the drama, I read the reactions to it. For example, this morning, I found at leasttwo four posts about other people whinging about no one being on LJ anymore, and that they're leaving. This meme comes up pretty often, but I never see the actual whinging, just the reaction posts. I think this means the folks I follow on LJ are pretty good folk, as they're the ones contributing (often far more than I).
So here's a shout-out to all the fine folks who show up on my Flist page every day, and make me feel connected to them. Pictures, text, navel-gazing… it doesn't matter. It's all a part of your life, and it's interesting to me. I'm not going to mention anyone specifically, as it wouldn't be proper, but thank you all very much.
