WWDC!

I am currently at the Virgin Gate (LULZ), awaiting my turn to board VX 23, 10:30 flight to SF. I'm crazy early due to a miscommunication with Luigi, my driver. He thought I said 9:30 flight. Oops.

So I'll be in town for an entire week for Apple's World Wide Developer's Conference aka WWDC, aka 'dubdub'. This is my first WWDC in, well, I think e'er. I've done MacWorld a few times, but I can't recall if I have been to WWDC. The trip should be fun, as I will be able to see, in person, many of my co-workers.

Most of my duties will be during the evening, at the various fundraisers, and parties. MartianCraft is sponsoring the Night of Meat, and I believe I've also been invited to Dr Wave's party as well. With all of this work and alcohol, I am still going to find a way to hit the SOMA Gold's during the day, otherwise my body may go into shock.

SF peeps: I'll see you in a bit!

I seem to be living a crazy life these days.

In the last few weeks, some pretty cool stuff has happened.

Pris, http://takenbypris.com/ is an app I helped make. It's now on the App Store at an introductory price. It's pretty cool, and a bit quirky. Released on June 5th, it's already currently #8 in the Photo category on iTunes. That's pretty amazing. John Gruber, of Daring Fireball fame, also had some nice things to say about it: http://daringfireball.net/linked/2012/06/08/pris

Speaking of John Gruber, his podcast, The Talk Show, recently moved to the Mule Network, away from 5by5. To be honest, I don't blame him for the move. I listen to a few 5by5 shows, and I don't think Dan (the owner of the network) contributes much to the show. In episode 3 of the new The Talk Show, John Gruber mentions me by name, and reads a comment I wrote about his original show from 2007. I forgot I wrote that! To John's credit, I think his show has improved since then. Perhaps I should give another review. I'm not a Gruber groupie by any stretch (in fact, I think he can be rather disingenuous at times), but it's kinda cool to be mentioned on his show.

And speaking of podcasts, the cat's out of the bag. Ruining It For Everyone, my podcast, is now part of the Scruffy.tv network. What does this mean? Well, for one, we're getting sponsorship. Not to worry though, it'll be more like NPR, and less like the ads you hear on other networks. THERE WILL BE NO INTERSTITIAL ADVERTS DURING THE SHOW. The sponsors will be named at the beginning of the show, and possibly at the end of the show, and that's it. There will be no droning on for 15 minutes about Audible or other fake endorsements, and we're only accepting advertising from companies and products we like.

Sponsorship allows us to hire editors, which is one thing we need BADLY. As both our jobs get more difficult, it takes longer and longer to edit the show. Hiring a minion or two will allow us to concentrate on getting great guests, and up the quality level of the show, which has always aspired to be in league with the best. For reference, it takes typically about 12 hours to complete a 90 minute show, and some with particularly tricky audio issues can take upwards of 24 hours to edit. Clearly, with a demanding day job, an additional 24 hours of work is brutal if you want to have a life. While I really enjoy the editing process, it's time to move on and get some help.

There are some additional personal things I wish to share, but I'm going to do that in a locked post, as these things are of a sensitive nature, and shouldn't be accessible to the general public.
