So my friend Michael went out and got a Lensbaby 2.0, and he brought it to our friend Liz' art show in Norwalk last week-end. We both have Canon 20Ds, so we swapped lenses for awhile. He had my 28mm f1.8, and I got to play with the lensbaby.

It's a *very* strange lens. It's a concave lens with flexible rubber tubing allowing you to do some really odd stuff. It's not as sharp, nor fast as the lenses I am used to, and having to hold your hand steady to focus is a pain, but *wow* what a lot of fun! There is a lensbaby 3.0 that actually has a position lock, allowing you to get repeatable results. It's kinda like if Holgas had flexbodies.

Check it out! Note there are 2 pages.

The art show itself was lovely. I've known her work for some time, as she's part of the House of Love, what can only be described as an art commune, about 2 miles away from where I live. I hope she takes her stuff to NYC, as I think she'd get a better reception.

I really like the one shot of Holly. I'm not sure about the over all effect of the lens though, some of them just looked out of focus. But then what do I know, I'm a barbarian.

That's because for the most part, they are! The Lensbaby is *very* difficult to work with, and I was only able to get about an hour of playtime with it. The hose is flexible, so you have to hold it in the *exact* position to keep focus, otherwise, you miss the "critical focus" point, and all is lost. If you look closely, you'll notice that there isn't an even blur as you go out from the critical focus point... it's warped. That's do to the bending of the hose coupled with the lens. It's not something I'd use often, but it's quite a bit of fun to play with.
