Snowpocalypse: Post Script

Yesterday's weather was beyond miserable. Huge amounts of snow and ice made driving home from the train station less than amusing. When I pulled into my driveway (it slopes down, creating snowbanks), the car got stuck, so I had to shovel using a digging spade. I can't believe we live in Connecticut and don't own a proper snow shovel. Sure, the Peruvian Cocoa Dwarves come and plough the driveway, but they do that in the morning, after the snows have finished. What should have taken 5 minutes took 30, as I not only had to get my car cleared, but I also had to remove all the snow from the garage door.
My funk has passed, at least temporarily, due to the lovely evening dinner and conversations with
badfaggot, and
anarchy_lime.
vernnyc also popped over for a bit of a pre-meal chat at Starbucks, but had prior evening obligations, so he left before Matt and I went across the street for dinner. In order to really de-funk myself, I need to go away on holiday for about a week.
Mental note: when someone asks if you would like them to take your bag and put it somewhere, say NO! Matt was kind enough to take my bag, and put it under the then-empty seat for the duration of the meal, and I promptly forgot I had it. I didn't notice until some very nice folk saw us go to the Citibank across the street and alerted us to the fact that my bag was still under the chair.
We split up after the meal, and went our separate ways. I was able to take the 11:10 train home, and spent that hour semi-napping while a gaggle of francophones conversed ebulliently about their evening's exploits. When I arrived in Greenwich, I noticed that the platform wasn't shoveled at all, making the walk very wet, due to the large holes in my old boots. The snow on the ground was crunchy and didn't pack, but rather exploded with every step, as if they were miniscule glass beads. It wasn't too dissimilar from coarse sand on a beach. I arrived at my car to find it under several inches of snow, the wiper blades immobile under the snow's weight. After a few minutes of clearing the glass, I drove slowly out of the lot, and headed home. I decided to take i95, as I thought that would be in better shape than the roads I normally take to get home. Once I exited (the following exit), I found my hunch was correct. The local roads were a mess. Thank the gods for front wheel drive, and tyres that aren't "summer only". I managed to get home without fuss, save the garage problem.
Soaked, I immediately disrobe upon entering the house. The boots go next to the HVAC register, the socks, jeans, and shirts go in the washer. I turn up the heat, and go upstairs to catch up on LJ, email, and pr0n downloads. Shortly thereafter, I wound up in conversations with
chrisglass,
notdefined, and
mightyrunt which take me into the very late hours. I finally call it quits around 4am. At 11am, I notice that it has stopped snowing, and they've already shoveled the street, although my driveway is still untouched, preventing me from getting the car out. Bad PCD! No biscuit!! So much for going to the gym. I wonder if Bill's Mercedes is able to be moved (He parks it in the guest lot at the top of the hill, but keeps the BMW convertible in the garage next to the TSX), as I need milk, and would *really* like to get to the gym.

Date: 2007-03-17 09:30 pm (UTC)It's very nice here in Houston: Shorts & tees with sunshine and a breeze. It's one of the best months in Houston. So, BLOWING YOU SOME NICE WEATHER (PUFF! PUFF)
If any consolation, I'll be joining you in that slosh in a few months.
Cheers!
Re: :(
Date: 2007-03-17 10:10 pm (UTC)Does that mean you'll be in NYC, or merely the east coast?
Re: :(
Date: 2007-03-19 05:54 pm (UTC)Everything I'll be doing will be in the city. School, Design, theatre... I'm looking forward to it all, but I'm having a lot of fun with the Edward Albee program @ UH, and wrapping things up here is a lot of work.
See you soon!

Date: 2007-03-17 11:51 pm (UTC)Btw, I'm glad that I wasn't going to try to meet you after my radio show because the person who was supposed to be on after me was 20 minutes late. Her excuse was that she wasn't aware of the change in daylight savings time - 6 days after the event!
