I'm in DC, but only *very* briefly. I arrived at 8pm, and I'm staying at the DoubleTree on RI Ave SW. DC confounds me. It's a grid *and* a spoke/hub system, but the grid is tilted 30° or so, making it impossible for me to figure out which end is "up".

The food, aside from the Warm Cookie(tm) was DREADFUL. I should have held on to the Warm Cookie until *after* I had dinner.

Now, I must work my arse off before my meeting tomorrow morning.

DC folks, I am sorry it didn't work out, but I'll be back in 2 weeks doing the same thing. Perhaps I'll get an earlier train, and I can hit a beer bust.

Oh, and has smoking been banned in restaurants/bars in DC as yet?

And the fuckers want me to may extra for net access? Fuck that. my MacBook is picking up no less than 24 hotspots. iStumbler says about 30% of them are open. I'm using the *free* Wifi from the hotel across the street. I (heart) technology.

Asking you to pay for wireless in a hotel is just rude. It's like asking payment for hot water. Just add it to the bill.

Bummer your stay is so brief this time, and that the food sucked. Yes, smoking is banned now. Congrats on finding the free wifi... charging for wifi access is akin to taxing oxygen, IMHO.

Hopefully, we'll see you next trip!

The diagonal streets might be what confuses you. The grid is pretty much intact but there are various streets that vary from the north south east west approach and go northeast to southwest or northwest to southeast.

I just need to come and show you around (smiling)

What on earth is a Warm Cookie?

It's a complimentary cookie the DoubleTree people give you when you check in. It's a gimmick… a tasty gimmick, but a gimmick.
