Prom Dresses!

Dayum!

I had to catch the replay, so I still don't know who won. I don't mind spoilers, so reply away.

Christian's attitude really sucks. Talk about self-defeatist. I understand his "model" is a bit crazy, but c'mon. If you're gonna call yourself "fierce", *BE* fierce, *especially* when there is shit kicked in your face.

I like Chris' dress, hate Victorya's, although I am not sure if I hate it because she's a passive-aggressive bitch, or if the dress is really bad. I just don't know anymore.

I totally called Sweet P's Catholic School upbringing =)

What were your impressions?

Here's the short version from the comments over at my place:

No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Profoundly disagree with both the winner and the loser.
And Nina must be tied down and bitch slapped until she bleeds.
Designing for 17 year olds. Blech. Shoot me now

I don't see anything wrong with designing for 17-year-olds. After all, the new up-and-coming stars have yet to *be* 17, so they will pay jillions of dollars for a top name designer "prom" dress. So will all the Orange Cunty (sic) bitches. However, that's not my point. My point is the challenge. Above all, this is a game show, and the designers are meant to tackle a challenge. Was this any more ludicrous than last week's candy episode? Designers have to work *with* a client, and I think this challenge, well, challenged them to do so.

As for Kevin going, well, I think many of the designers dismissed the challenge, and decided to say "fuck it". Christian and Kevin were the worst of this lot. Alas, I thought Christian's dress made the model look like an exploded hostess cupcake, but at least she didn't look dowdy, which Kevin did. Add the construction problems in the mix, and it's Auf-time.

Actually, I preferred the candy episode. I think the contestants (going with your game show theme) saw this for what it was: an impossible task with no clear way to win.

Ricky should have gone. His was the worst. And I thought Victorya's was equally hideous but for different reasons.

Christian's biggest problem with the judges appears to have been his lack of tact with his "client". I wonder if they considered that he is only a few years older than she is. How do you make a fat 17 year old whose taste quotient is low but arrogance level is high look good while also keeping your own vision? You don't. In the real world he would have fired her as a client, but he didn't have that option.

From what I see of proms these days, those dresses were way too demure. If Nina thinks the contestant's designs were too "old" for the girls then she's clearly out of touch with what 17 year olds (that aren't trust fund babies living in California) are wearing to the dance. Victorya's creation would have been laughed off the street.

That's just it... Everyone I've seen in "prom duds" (wow, why did I read that back as "porn dudes") looks like they're 26, not 16-17, so I don't *quite* know where they were coming from when they made that statement to most of the designers. I *did* understand it when they called Kevin on it (it made her look 40, and I think it was also the hair).

Ricky proves to be once again a humorless pud, and maybe a bit dim: Chris' Flinstones joke was my favorite episode of this season so far. There's Kit cracking up and Ricky finally burps out "oh I get it" and just looking like an ass.

Also Rami = one trick pony.

Sweet P had the best prom photo hands down.

Word. Rami is totally 1-note. Granted, that one note is sophisticated, and refined, but it's like a hairdresser who can only cut a "Moe" (of 3 Stooges fame).

Yeah, Ricky needs to be Auf'd soon. He's just not that good. He's not *bad*, but he's not competitive.

Don't you be hatin' on my Ricky! He's sweet. He's this year's Bradley. Yes, he was the obvious choice to be auf'd, and this wasn't the first time, and it's a mystery to me why he's still there, but I still think he's sweet.

Christian got the model he deserved, somebody with as much attitude as he has. And maybe almost getting aufed will provide some more attitude adjustment.

All the designers were looking and sounding demoralized, I think the stresses of the dorm living and the long days of the competitions are getting to them.

It was a little shocking to see the overall poor quality of the work, since they had 2+ days for the designing, long fitting periods, and a decent budget. Sure, they were designing for "real people," but still....

It's the editing. Victorya's dress sucks until the final moment and then it CLICKS! I think Vera Wang better watch her ass because there's only enough room for one passive aggressive Chinese fashion bitch in this town...

Word.

Also, WTF was up with Kit's "Rainbow NIght Rider" dress she made??

NFI. In fact every time the camera turned to Kit I kept asking myself who is this chick and why haven't I seen her before?

Mind you, I loved Sweet P's Grecian-Hollywood Glamour-Shmata, I just thought it a tad too sophisticated for a high school prom. That trail? One too many drunken frat boys, picking up meme from your other post, and their clumsy footed ways are going to tear the shit on the dance floor.

yeah, the editors have been pretty stealth with her. She to my understanding hasn't won a round, but always seems to make it to the "pass" line. She's got to step it up if she wants to make it to the final 4.

Don't forget Project runway canada...Parcelforce post it...it's very clear and well done, and the show rocks, as well.

Whenever I have a huge project due, that will require working though the night, I get project runway on the tube or the computer. If I'm gonna work until I wanna puke, I wanna be in a pseudo classroom situation, working with other people who just wanna puke.

What annoyed me was that they took any time at all to discuss how disappointing Rami’s piece was; he’d already won the Hershey’s challenge and they couldn’t eliminate him for just that reason.  They could have pulled a Trump and yanked his immunity and then not cut him, at least that would have said something.  They didn’t even accuse him of coasting on his immunity, though of course he wasn’t, but to spend even a few minutes discussing the poor performance of a contestant who can’t be eliminated seems less than efficient to me.

And no, the dress was not prom, nor was Kevin’s.  I thought that girl’s mom would most definitely be stealing that dress out of the girl’s closet as soon as the prom was over.

Sweet P made a nice effort, but I can’t remember ever seeing a high school girl, no matter how spoiled, wearing a floor-length evening gown avec train to a prom.  Not even someone who was planning on sitting at a table all night, to say nothing of actually dancing.

And you just know that for the duration of Heidi’s hug, Kevin was thinking about Seal’s big babymaker.

OMG - I haven't seen it, but I haven't liked anything Victoria has done!

Problem is, everyone else did so poorly that, as they said, they really only had two pieces to choose from.  For as much as her dress rocked as evening wear, Sweet P ultimately made a dress that was not quite prom-appropriate (in that it was too long for teenage social dancing), and VictorYA, for all that was annoying to me personally about her dress, made something that was an appropriate length for the practical application of the garment.

Who was it who was saying all the contestants seem more muted? Like they're worn out? I noticed that Victorya seemed to have gotten a little bit of humility since that ill-fated teaming with Ricky. Maybe it's just that she's exhausted.

I thought the funniest thing was that all judges bitched something to the 'you are supposed to design for 17-year olds' tune when they all are sending 16-year old models down their respective runways (or into fotoshoots)in clothes that are made to sell to 30s and 40s eternal Promqueens with lotsa disposable income.

Otherwise, I thought Chris' dress was very chic and did deserve better. Christian's was so out of control, if was almost good again. I thought Ricky was a much bigger disaster (dress AND designer)

big post. (spoiler alert)

I see a lot of prom dresses: The G/L country western dances take place across from a ballroom that has a LOT of proms...See gay cowboys on the other side of the street rating the prom dresses as they enter/leave the building. Yes, we do....

Sweet P's would have been good cheap wedding dress, but not prom. Too long: Tea length, it would have still worked. I didn't like where the halter fit into the waist: too far forward...too much breast eposure from the sides, but otherwise, beautifully done.

I liked Rami's dress, but for the color, the pleating at the skirt bottom (lampshade-ish) and the braided strap over her left shoulder. In other words...my FAVORITE thing about Rami's dress was HIS ass in THOSE pants, leaving the runway. That being said, he likes the sari-draping on the formalwear and that's his signature, but none of the other dresses, sans the first one, had it...right? I don't see him as one trick at all.

I'd have liked Victorya's dress, but for the star-trek spangly thing at the throat: Too "Pretty in Pink" nightmare. I liked the length, color, and silhouette. It looked age appropriate. (I'd argue that she's more of a "1 trick pony" than Rami: she keeps doing this short trapese silhouette on MOST of her garments.)

Ricky: Boring, but "almost". Michael was right: A stronger color, better fit, more roucheing, stronger belt...it would have rocked. I'd have sent him home before Kevin.

Chris' was gorgeous. I loved the back. My favorite, EASILY. She looked great. I'm surprised it wasn't top 3.

Kevin's looked like something a Drag Queen doing Marilyn would have worn. Whoever said "Mom" would have stolen that dress right after prom is right~ And she would have gone salsa dancing. It was older, but flirty and sexy. (This was the episode I suddenly started to think that Kevin was hot...it figures that he would go).

Christian...should have gone for his crap attitude, but alas alas. The color was great on her...but that dress looked like a chocolate merengue. The girl could really rock the runway, though...Kudo's to her: You could tell it was her dream to do that walk on national TV.

Kits: meh.
Jillian: Pretty, but the bust/bodice didn't fit well.

That's all, folks.
