I'm intrigued by the exchange of personal space between the man in the khakis with the newspaper and the man facing him with his feet extending between the first man's legs.
Ah, that's pretty standard for facing seats on the Metro North trains. It's totally unavoidable, and the most comfortable for all involved is interleaved legs.
It runs very counter to personal-space-conscious New Englanders. Another odd note is there is very little if any verbal interaction when negotiating leg position.
