How very intriguing. But do you really think it's on the level, and that it's safe to log in to secure sites via this method? Any chance username/password entered via this proxy might be intercepted by malicious forces?

I'm just a simple little C++ programmer, working on high-speed, computer vision applications, and know embarrassingly little about how the Web actually works.

Unless you run your own proxy, you're in danger of someone potentially sniffing your password. So yes, it is possible. I don't know if this proxy is SSL-capable, so you may not even have the option of running end-to-end protocol encryption.
