Gods I miss that show. It's a shame the DVDs aren't good (they didn't have the rights to use the music they used during broadcast, so it just isn't the same… similar problem with Northern Exposure).
I do have audio recordings of my voice posted here… if you go back into my archives, I am sure some will turn up.
That kind of thing just reeks. A much smaller though similar issue is that Married With Children couldn't get the rights to use "Love And Marriage" on the DVDs, so those have this horrible instrumental crap as a themesong.
Personally - I don't think this sort of thing should ever be an issue. If WKRP negotiated rights to use the music in the show when it was made, any reissues of the show should get an automatic license to the music at a predetermined royalty rate. Sure, the artists are due compensation but this kind of crap should never screw up an existing work.
Part of the reason it took so long for Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman to come out on DVD is that Universal lost the rights to the root novel by Martin Caidin and I think the same principle should apply. To create NEW work, absolutely a new license. To reissue an existing work - mechanical, statutory royalties but nothing like this could block the reissue.
Exactly! And each sale could be treated as a broadcast. for that purpose. There will *always* be new media that come out, and every time this sort of thing happens.
I have done a bit of VO work. For my friend (ex friend, I suppose, as I haven't seen her in ages), I read the entire Interview with the Vampire novel and put it on a bunch of CDs. It was fun. It also took WAAAAY too long to do.
I grew up in east asia, so my accent is fairly influenced by what you'd hear in Hong Kong, along with the fact that I've been in the US for over 20 years, and I am afraid my accent is a little bit 'non-standard'.
I heard the voice clip as well that was posted in comments. You have a gorgeous voice. I am surprised someone has not tapped you for voice-over work for audio books if nothing else. I could listen to you read as long as you could last...
There is something else I have imagined from time to time you doing for me as long as you can last too, but I would bet you would not consider that work at all...
I've been doing some VO work for office stuff, but there is a podcast in development. I don't have an estimated time, but I'm hoping 'soon'. It's going to be semi-work related (technology, design, development, user experience), and we'll have guests.
