Aaaaw yeah!
I'd decided to check out the collections when they actually happened, via the AP newswire, so I kinda knew what to expect. What wasn't obvious was how these looks worked when being strutted down the runway. It became a very different game. So exciting!
I don't want to spoil anything here, but WOW!! Not what I expected.
I need to get a video of Chris March's collection going down the runway (both he and Sweet P also showed at Bryant Park, as red herrings).
So what did you all think?
Discuss!!

Date: 2008-03-06 04:13 am (UTC)I was on the phone with
But I"m not disappointed at all. Rami and Jillian will continue on to success, as I think with Chris March and several of the others.
The only other thing I'll say is: I would HATE to be 21, that talented, that full of overconfidence, AND win PR. But that's being 44 and knowing what happens if you get too much too young. Fingers crossed for Christian that winning will be a good thing for him.

Date: 2008-03-06 04:18 am (UTC)Jillian's was very prêt-à-porter. Very commercial, but not Fashion Week enough for the judges. I think she'll be able to do well on her own.
Christian's right... he's smart enough to realise he needs a break. Not only did he win, but he also won the viewer's choice, so he's got 110k + a re-badged Opel econobox.
I want to see what he hits us with next year. It's gonna be fierce.

A leased VW SUV, and a costune-designer gig for a show in Vegas.

Date: 2008-03-06 05:22 am (UTC)Oh, those obnoxious pants! I think Rami is secretly color-blind.
I don’t really get Michael going so nuts over Jillian’s knit pieces. Were he and Nina figuring they were just going to get more of the same even though the five designers had hella more time and resources to come up with twelve looks?
I haven’t been following Sew Not Over closely, but I don’t think it will be too surprising if Christian ends up with $120k before this is all over.

Date: 2008-03-06 06:49 am (UTC)Still he did a great job, I was pleased with most of the looks if not the colours. Though to be fair I think the only one who aced colours was Jillian. Christian was very neutral or black.
Still I think they all did great work.
I am kind of glad that Christian won. He was the most consistent of them.

Date: 2008-03-06 04:19 am (UTC)I guess I didn't "get" Jillian's, either.
Like Posh said, Christian's made me smile. It was exciting and fun.
That all said, I was surprised at the winner because I've disagreed with each previous season's winner. I was so afraid they'd give it to Rami, who I found remarkably arrogant and boring.

Date: 2008-03-06 04:37 am (UTC)Compressing video isn't *so* difficult, but it's *really* easy to fuck it up. WHY to people insist on fucking it up, *especially* when it's all about the detail in the clothing?
::sigh::

Date: 2008-03-06 04:41 am (UTC)First impression ('cause I'm still watching after a tape-delayed Top Model): too many of the girls Rami cast had busted walks. I wanted to smack the bitches, but I figure they weren't pulling down big bucks for this show.
I’m thinking that Christian owes Chris March some royalties for two or three of the looks he sent down, because they were straight out of the couture look they did.

Date: 2008-03-06 04:44 am (UTC)Also, they didn't make any mention of Christian's model winning the contest.
They also didn't have a "last minute look" they had to come up with, nor did they bust everyone's chops over their budget.
Hmmm...

Date: 2008-03-06 05:16 am (UTC)Rami should be aware enough to notice that industry people will notice the busted walk before they’ll pay attention to the clothes, and that’s totally unacceptable when you’re trying to sell your clothes to buyers.
Extra looks mean additional money for all five designers, because they have to keep the decoys on equal footing. I imagine that all the reciptage were non-issues. There’s no way Christian could have had help in making those pieces, because he has no room for anyone else in his sewing room, and he’s too much of a control freak to let anyone else do construction for him.

Date: 2008-03-06 05:34 am (UTC)I thought it was amusing that the makeup expert had bad skin, and the chief hairdresser was bald....
They do make the girls look pretty, though. Except for Christian's tardy black model, when she came out on the runway I thought "Lady looks like a dude"!

Date: 2008-03-06 01:27 pm (UTC)I liked several of Jillian's looks, but I agree her collection wasn't necessarily "Fashion Week". I'd bet there are more women eager to wear her clothes, though.

Date: 2008-03-07 03:59 am (UTC)I am glad that Christian won. Rami bored me. Jillian showed the Ralph Lauren 2010 collection. Christian was unique - and that is high fashion. If this was a Ready to Wear contest, then sure - Jillian hands down. But this is fashion.
