Aaaaw yeah!

I'd decided to check out the collections when they actually happened, via the AP newswire, so I kinda knew what to expect. What wasn't obvious was how these looks worked when being strutted down the runway. It became a very different game. So exciting!

I don't want to spoil anything here, but WOW!! Not what I expected.

I need to get a video of Chris March's collection going down the runway (both he and Sweet P also showed at Bryant Park, as red herrings).

So what did you all think?

Discuss!!

Once the collections walked it was a foregone conclusion.

But really - Posh?

Running on fumes, she is.

Yeah... loved the colour of her dress though... I wanted her to flap in the wind in Central Park ;-)

Victoria Beckham is totally and completely modern.

Fumes, vapors, wispiness. That's the *point*.

I was a little surprised at the outcome; Christian's collection was pretty fabulous but so black-heavy and jacket-heavy at the outset, whereas Jillian and Rami both surprised me with some of the interesting stuff they pulled off. It made me feel that they would have more justification NOT giving it to Christian than I'd have thought.

I was on the phone with [livejournal.com profile] annoyinghandle at the same time catching him up on what was happening .... did they *criticize* Rami's jewel tones? I liked those. And the basket-weavey stuff he did was pretty killer. I also just plain liked Jillian's collection.

But I"m not disappointed at all. Rami and Jillian will continue on to success, as I think with Chris March and several of the others.

The only other thing I'll say is: I would HATE to be 21, that talented, that full of overconfidence, AND win PR. But that's being 44 and knowing what happens if you get too much too young. Fingers crossed for Christian that winning will be a good thing for him.

Remi's colour choices were *awful*. The 80s called, and they want their fuchsia and aqua back.

Jillian's was very prêt-à-porter. Very commercial, but not Fashion Week enough for the judges. I think she'll be able to do well on her own.

Christian's right... he's smart enough to realise he needs a break. Not only did he win, but he also won the viewer's choice, so he's got 110k + a re-badged Opel econobox.

I want to see what he hits us with next year. It's gonna be fierce.

Yeah, he's going to be one to watch, for sure.

As for Posh ... wow, she is aging SO badly ....

Yeah... not a good scene. While I really want to see the show in HD, I am concerned about seeing the *people* in HD ;-)

Oh, those obnoxious pants!  I think Rami is secretly color-blind.

I don’t really get Michael going so nuts over Jillian’s knit pieces.  Were he and Nina figuring they were just going to get more of the same even though the five designers had hella more time and resources to come up with twelve looks?

I haven’t been following Sew Not Over closely, but I don’t think it will be too surprising if Christian ends up with $120k before this is all over.

Sometimes I feel like Rami does not think about what the judges want. I mean, didn't he use fuchsia in the glamazon wrestler challenge and Michael Kors specifically said he hated the colour? Why was it so prevalent in his collection?

Still he did a great job, I was pleased with most of the looks if not the colours. Though to be fair I think the only one who aced colours was Jillian. Christian was very neutral or black.

Still I think they all did great work.

I am kind of glad that Christian won. He was the most consistent of them.

Yeah, but prior years had the Sky Roadster. No, not the best car out there, but far more worthy of the "fierce" moniker than this pedestrian grocery getter. Talk about boring Nina!

I truly and deeply hated Rami's collection. Those designs flattered very few of those wafer thin models. And then add the teal and burgundy? Bitch, please.

I guess I didn't "get" Jillian's, either.

Like Posh said, Christian's made me smile. It was exciting and fun.

That all said, I was surprised at the winner because I've disagreed with each previous season's winner. I was so afraid they'd give it to Rami, who I found remarkably arrogant and boring.

I thought the detail of the weaving was really good, but it's not something that made me say "wow, what a stunningly good look". I just thought "Wow, that looks hard to make".

Hey, I recently test drove one of the 3 door sports models. I was pretty damn impressed, actually. Granted, I'd have WAY preferred a SKY, which I consider a big thick gorgeous erection on 4 rubber tires, but, this will hold much more in the way of fabric, sewing machines, sergers, etc. LOL

but it'll be in shitty compressed video.

Compressing video isn't *so* difficult, but it's *really* easy to fuck it up. WHY to people insist on fucking it up, *especially* when it's all about the detail in the clothing?

::sigh::

First impression ('cause I'm still watching after a tape-delayed Top Model): too many of the girls Rami cast had busted walks.  I wanted to smack the bitches, but I figure they weren't pulling down big bucks for this show.

I’m thinking that Christian owes Chris March some royalties for two or three of the looks he sent down, because they were straight out of the couture look they did.

Date: 2008-03-06 04:44 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] theoctothorpe.livejournal.com
Yeah, I noticed that as well... most of those girls couldn't walk to save their lives.

Also, they didn't make any mention of Christian's model winning the contest.

They also didn't have a "last minute look" they had to come up with, nor did they bust everyone's chops over their budget.

Hmmm...

From: [identity profile] grandiva1968.livejournal.com

Rami should be aware enough to notice that industry people will notice the busted walk before they’ll pay attention to the clothes, and that’s totally unacceptable when you’re trying to sell your clothes to buyers.

Extra looks mean additional money for all five designers, because they have to keep the decoys on equal footing.  I imagine that all the reciptage were non-issues.  There’s no way Christian could have had help in making those pieces, because he has no room for anyone else in his sewing room, and he’s too much of a control freak to let anyone else do construction for him.

I thought it was amusing that the makeup expert had bad skin, and the chief hairdresser was bald....

They do make the girls look pretty, though. Except for Christian's tardy black model, when she came out on the runway I thought "Lady looks like a dude"!

Just finished the finale... I wanted Jillian to win, then Rami. It seems like they both went to the extra effort to make clothes that would generally appeal to women. Christian's clothing was too bland and outrageous- and they said Chris March too much of a costume-designer?! Then again, Rami's color choices were somewhat difficult.

Just finished watching PR. I wanted Jillian to win. Here clothes were wearable, and beautifully crafted. Ladylike and stylish. I was torn between Rami and Christian however. Chritian's pieces looked too much the same. You could of interchanged the coats, and blouses with the next models in line. Plus I was getting sick of his over confidence. Rami did well, yet there was that subtle hint of drapery. His basket weave coats were the best.

The only dress of Rami's that I liked was the brown one with the basket-weave bodice. The only dress of Christian's that really appealed to me was the 2nd to last look, I believe--the knee-length chocolate-vanilla swirl dress.

I liked several of Jillian's looks, but I agree her collection wasn't necessarily "Fashion Week". I'd bet there are more women eager to wear her clothes, though.

The thing I didn't like about Jillian all season was that it still looked like Lauren, not Jillian...

I am glad that Christian won. Rami bored me. Jillian showed the Ralph Lauren 2010 collection. Christian was unique - and that is high fashion. If this was a Ready to Wear contest, then sure - Jillian hands down. But this is fashion.
